Major media hide ultimate impact of Trump's IRS lawsuit
Vast majority fail to identify the result if Trump wins: American taxpayers would foot the bill
Both the Washington Post and The New York Times (and most major media) did a disservice to their readers — and another favor to Trump — with their headlines on a story about his lawsuit against the IRS and Treasury Department for $10 billion. If he succeeds in this dubious lawsuit, it would be the American people who would pay.
Here’s the headline and subhead from the Times’ story:
And the one from the Post’s story:
The Times story didn’t even mention that key fact about who would pay in such a case. I cancelled my Post subscription quite a while ago, so I can’t read the full story to see if they omitted it as well.
Not to single out these two, as quite a few other major news outlets had similar headlines, including the BBC, The Guardian, ABC News, the Associated Press, CNN, NBC, etc.
There was one news website and one think tank that called it right, but they were the only ones I could find, sadly.
